Astaxanthin is one of the strongest natural antioxidants in the world. It belongs to the carotenoid family (red-orange pigments). Its extraordinary effects stem from a specific chemical structure that allows it to protect cells much more effectively than other antioxidants. Most of them act either only on the surface of the cell or inside it. Astaxanthin has a uniquely long structure that allows it to span the entire cell membrane.
Lutein and zeaxanthin are two carotenoids that target the human eye in the body, specifically the retina and macula (responsible for sharp central vision).
